David Ruffin: Walk Away From Love
It's not that I don't love you
You know how much I do
And it's not that I've found someone
To take the place of you
It's just a fear that builds within me
Everytime you touch my hand
And a dread that shakes my body
That even I don't understand
So I'm leaving
This time I'm playing it smart
I'm gonna walk away from love
Before love breaks my heart
Oh, you're clinging to me tighter
Than you ever have before
I don't understand it
But I know it's gonna take everything I've got
To keep walking out the door
But those arms you've got around me
Will let me go someday
And I'd rather leave you holding on
Than pushing me away
So I'm leaving, yes I am
This time I'm playing it smart
I'm gonna walk away from love
Before love breaks my heart
and also a lil' BB and Bobby from traditional blues genre:

I agree. Although we usually find moving on from a relationship in song lyrics, any type of relationship can be included.
I have walked away from so many due the the other person's negativity or attitudes. I choose the winners. For me this can be very lonely as I have few real and true friends. But I move forward as I need only positive people in my life.
Rev,
Is this what's called a "subtle message"?
Everywhere I go, folks seem to be discussing the contention in government. I think it's embarrassing and shameful.
Rev. Thanks!
Hey Rev, Love your choices this week! I would have not thought of David, but it is about as bluesy as one can get :-) Hapyy OSF!
Although BB King is the king of blues, I am partial to David's voice. Nice picks Rev. :-)
Hey Rev!
Great choices, brother. You already know how I feel about BB (thahnks for dropping by), so you gotta know I'm a fan of his longtime sidekick Bobby Blue Bland too. That voice! And david Ruffin was an unexpected pleasure. That's one I wouldn't have even thought of.
Happy OSF!
I see you enjoyed this theme, didn't like less week's theme. It's okay, I grew up in a blues house, so when I hear these songs it makes me miss my mom, but it makes me feel closer to her.
Anyway these are great choices. Bobby Blue Bland was one of my mom's favorite. I think we have several cassettes, and 8 tracks with Bobby Blue Bland.
I like the David Ruffin's song the best...
Have a great Valentine Day, and yes Obama needs to brush those Republicans off, they are only trying to sabotage him. Do they forget they are the ones that created this mess? Did we forget?
Tough words in that song! And yeah, it looks like it's time for Obama to cut bait and move on from this particular battle.
I'm with MilesPerHour - and when you get older (like me) you realize there are only so many hours and days left so you don't want to spend them on negative people, bad music or pains in the butt!
Walk away from love, people, places or anything that doesn't add joy or advancement to your life!
Blues are a good choice for your post.
Haha! We posted the same B.B. King song but from different performances.
Hadn't heard that Ruffin tune in ages. But more than the music, I appreciate your commentary leading up to the music.
Enjoyed the visit. BTW, I spent a lot of time on lyrics, music, and phases of life at BlogHer last week. The post is geared toward female readers, however. Mentioned OSF right off.
Lovin' the Ruffin!!
Revvy,
You hit the nail on the head with David Ruffin. That brings back some for real memories.
B.B. & Bobby has always been a dynamic mix.
Great choices!
And I totally agree with the last lines of your post.
Excellent post, Rev!
Love the David Ruffin...that man sure could sing! And who can go wrong with BB and BBB!
Happy OSF!
Nicely played Double R

I hear you on "forget the Repubs and move on". They are not going to get on board with the things he has to do and the things that must be done.
BTW, love David Ruffin. Great voice...just too many demons. And what can be said about the masters of blues - bb and bobbie - love it!
