I get the music--the chord progressions, the melodies, and the words. What I don't get is those dresses that Isaac Hayes' background singers were wearing.
Counselor, they sho' could sang tho! That was their Sunday go ta meetin' dresses. You're right I don't know if we should have been on stage in caftans but I've seen worse. But as in all fashions, "Time Will Reveal" (no pun intended) :)

I know all these songs, and I was born a little later. My mama filled the house with soul and blues. Issac Hayes was in heavy rotation. I love the beat on Walk On By. Of course it's been sampled because it's so good.
Baby I'm Real was remade by After 7 and produced by Babyface. I like the original best.
It's Your Thing by The Isleys is an American classic. I think everyone has danced to that song.

Why don't songs have those great preludes anymore? It builds a certain anticipation for what you're going to hear...even if you already knwo the words. I graduated high school much later and most of my friends can sing Walk on By...that's testament to a song.
